“How beautiful you are when your childhood drags on”. This phrase by Anne Sylvestre resonates intimately with Clémence and has become the common thread running through her work. In 2009 in Paris, she created Gals Rock, a space dedicated to women’s rock culture. At the same time, during a long stay in New York, she discovered hand lettering. On her return, Gals Rock became her first playground and learning ground: shop windows, walls, slates and record bins became singular media of expression and signage elements, helping to assert the visual identity of the space. In 2015, Clémence decided to devote herself entirely to illustration, asserting a style imbued with poetry and humor. From calligraphy to character, there’s just one stroke of the pencil! Words take on the shape of what they describe, and it’s through single-line drawing that Clémence discovers and tames a crazy bestiary… Her quirky, charmingly nostalgic world lends itself equally well to cartoon-style comic strips and the creation of hypnotic patterns. Live or remotely, Clémence brings that dose of lightness that gives body and heart to your project.
